Stop Wage Garnishments
The Automatic Stay, which goes into affect the moment your petition is filed, will stop garnishment of your wages. The automatic stay makes it illegal for your employer to remove garnishment proceeds from your pay. Also, in nearly all cases, the underlying judgement/debt, which is the basis for the garnishment, will be wiped out by the bankruptcy discharge. This means that once your bankruptcy case is over, the garnishment goes away permanently.
